Ruth’s Ministry in the Philippines 
 

 

Ruth first came to the Philippines in1977, on a short-term mission’s assignment with the Assemblies of God.  During the time from 1977-1979 Ruth and her co-worker, Joanne Oftedahl were involved in a variety of ministries. They conducted Bible studies in the Metro Manila area and then began working with The Hospital Christian Fellowship. 

Through prayer and songs, Ruth and Joanne ministered to many patients and their families.   This ministry also touched the hearts of many of the nursing staff.  Later, in Cebu and in the Bicol Region they trained teams of young people to be apart of hospital visitation.  They also taught classes at Immanuel Bible College in Cebu and ministered in many churches throughout the country.

In 1986-1987, Ruth ministered in the country of Singapore.  While in Singapore, Ruth ministered at Trinity Christian Center Assemblies of God Church. Ruth was involved in teaching at the church Bible School, Sunday school and Filipino Fellowship.

In 1987-1988, Ruth returned to the Philippines to work with several Metro Manila churches.  During this time,  Ruth conducted many Teachers Training Seminars for church children’s workers.

In 1995-2002, Ruth became a faculty member of Faith Academy in Manila.  During these years, she taught Kindergarten students whose parents were all missionaries.  Faith Academy is an International and Interdenominational school, meeting the needs of missionary children from more then twenty countries.

In 2002-2003, Ruth felt it necessary to have a better understanding of the people by studying the Tagalog language.  During this time of study, many valuable relationships developed as of means of practicing the language.  

In 2005 until the present time, Ruth has made her base of ministry in the Central part of the Philippine on the island of Cebu.  Living in Cebu gives Ruth and her team access by sea and land to many nearby island.
